Honest Eating

I'm going to do a little talking about eating right...from my point of view (whatever it's worth haha)

The first chapter in "The Honest Life" is about eating right for whatever your reasons may be; health, environment, or animal welfare. My goal is purely health. I want to make sure that the cow that I'm getting my beef from didn't have steroids put in it or fed on weird chemical animal food. The more organic and cleaner the produce, the less harmful things are going to go in me.

A great way to get this is from farmers markets. This site www.localharvest.org is a great site to find where local farmers markets are to you. Supposedly there is a Fort Smith Downtown Farmers Market on 2nd and Garrison in the big parking lot on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 7 a.m to 12 p.m. If anyone has ever been to it let me know! Like I said in my previous post, it's going to take a little while to fully adjust to this. I'll mostly go to grocery stores to get what I need. But if the farmers market in Fort Smith is still going, I'll start picking up a couple of things there once a week.

I want to eat healthier (I don't mean that by counting calories and such). And eating healthier can be fun and not just boring and bland like most think it is. Say I was to make a lasagna...instead of your regular lasagna noodles I would buy whole grain lasagna noodles. Healthier choice. Instead of regular meat, go lean or organic. Healthier choice. You see where I'm going with this? I will still eat my favorite foods, but with healthy and organic ingredients. And if I want to dig in and get myself a two person helping then I'll go for it. For me, honest eating doesn't mean eating certain portions. Honest eating is diving in to the wonderful and tasteful creations that you create with nutritional and healthy food.

I don't want to make this post too long but here's another cool fact real quick. Seasonal. Yea you may be thinking that it's a bummer to have to only eat certain foods at certain times, but think of this. Tomatoes don't grow in December, so when you eat a tomato in winter, it gonna be this watery untasty food. You're eating it because it's in front of you. But if you waited and bought tomatoes when they are in season...then what you eat will be juicy taste-bud ringing good. And it's kind of interesting to see that when you eat with the seasons, your constantly changing your food intake and keeping it interesting without having to eat the same food year round.

I probably could continue but I'll spare you my blabbing on and on. Even if you aren't interested in eating organic or anything like that...pick up this book. It's pretty cool!
