But this time I am determined!! Determined I say!!!
Since last time I blogged many things have happened.
1) We have a new dog in the family. Gabrielle "CoCo" Chanel (named after the fashion designer and founder of the Chanel clothing line that reinvented women's clothing, liberating women from the constraints of the "corseted silhouette" in the post-World War I era.)
2) My husband is now working in Oklahoma. Which means he is two hours closer to home! Yippee!
3) And the greatest news yet!! We are expecting our first child, a boy! Bradley John Irby Jr. We don't know what we will call him yet, Bradley or John or some other nickname, but he is going to be the best baby boy this side of the Mississippi...he and I already decided this lol.
Let me get on though with why I am back to blogging again. I am in the process of reading "The Honest Life" by Jessica Alba. Here is a little description of it for you....
"As a new mom, Jessica Alba wanted to create the
safest, healthiest environment for her family. But she was frustrated by the
lack of trustworthy information on how to live healthier and cleaner—delivered
in a way that a busy mom could act on without going to extremes. In 2012, she
launched The Honest Company, a brand where parents can find reliable
information and products that are safe, stylish, and affordable. The Honest
Life shares the insights and strategies she gathered along the way.
The Honest Life reveals her tips for making healthy living
fun, real, and stylish, while offering a candid look inside her home and daily
life. She shares strategies for maintaining a clean diet (with favorite family-friendly
recipes) and embraces nontoxic choices at home and provides eco-friendly decor
tips to fit any budget. Alba also discusses cultivating a daily eco beauty
routine, finding one’s personal style without resorting to yoga pants, and
engaging in fun, hands-on activities with kids. Her solutions are easy, chic,
and down-to-earth: they’re honest."
So with this new baby coming, I'm taking on the challenge (created by yours truly) to live "the honest life". And it's not just to buy eco friendly products...but to even start being "smarter" in other aspects of my life. But mostly to make sure that when the little one comes into the world he won't be surrounded by processed food or harsh chemicals, where the only so called eco-friendly part about them is the packaging.
What really got me thinking was, in one exert of her book, there is a section called "But I grew up with that and I'm fine", saying that stuff back when we were kids isn't the same now. For example that special baby detergent that our moms used way back, now contains synthetic fragrances, propylene glycol, and diethylene glycol. (This stuff can causes rashes and mess with the neurological system and even cause brain damage). So you think you are giving your baby the best and safest detergent out there but really your just dousing their clothing in harsh chemicals.
No...thank...you.
So here is my plan...
* I am going to eat and have my loved ones eat more organic, fresh, and pure food. Not just because that's the thing to do if you want to go eco-friendly blah blah...it's just a better way to eat without putting things in your body that are harmful. And like Jessica says "it's called Honest Eating, not Perfect Eating"...if I'm craving one evening a wonderful cheesy bacon hamburger from McDonald's...then I'm probably gonna eat it lol.
Plus I have also have been wanting to start a garden!
* I am going to make sure my home is a more safer and cleaner place with gentle, non toxic, and effective products. And to make sure that my family and I use products on ourselves that don't contain any harsh ingredients, preservatives and such. (Doesn't mean I'm going to become a germiphob or toxicphob...I'm just going to make better choices with products we use.)
* Making sure I have a honest home in the fact that it will be cozy, kid friendly, clean, colorful and imperfect lol...because having an "honest home" in this sense doesn't mean to be expensive, organized, matchy-matchy or fussy. I am going to try and have my home run more efficiently and my lifestyle more efficient.
Now it won't all happen over night, and I won't be going out the next day to purchase all organic produce and products (what a waste of materials I have, and costly). It's going to be a process over time to grow and adjust to this lifestyle. But with some determination I can do it! And over time it won't be a process...it will be second nature.
Wish me luck!
That's a great book. We'll take this journey together!
